Papers of Ignacio Iribarren Borges: Guayana Esequiba

This is the first project that the Venezuela History Network undertakes in partnership with Creative Commons Venezuela (CC-VE) to preserve a section of the personal papers of writer, lawyer and former minister of foreign affairs, Ignacio Iribarren Borges (1913-1988) pertaining to the border dispute between Venezuela and Guyana. The documents register the oficial position of the Venezuelan government during the 1960s regarding the Guayana Esequiba, or Reclamation Zone, an area of 159.542 km2 that to this day is still a matter of dispute between both countries.
Among the items you will find here are newspaper clippings, maps, letters and speeches from the former minister of foreign affairs digitized and processed using open source technologies developed by CC-VE.
